Killing it at Life part 1: Michael Victor Porsche

There are some people who I admire from afar through the veil of social media. I watch these lives unfold in status updates, photos, events, one-liners, songs posted. There are project references, hard decisions referenced, dance parties, loves, likes, encounters. I eagerly await these updates, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I’ve worked with these people on projects, I know these people in person, but mostly I see them and their exploits online, and from here, it looks like they are Killing it at Life. So I reached out, to find out how they do it. I asked some questions, then some follow-ups. Here’s the first interview:

Michael Victor Porsche, you are killing it at life. Let’s talk about it.

Li88y
What’s your favorite thing about being alive?

MVP
Making out. Also, dancing.

Li88y
Sunlight or moonlight?

MVP
Moonlight. I’m a vampire.

Li88y
What’s your favorite record right now?

MVP
Well, forever and always, “Physical Graffiti” by Led Zeppelin, but as I am typing this I’m seriously jamming on “Random Access Memories”, which is Daft Punk’s new record.

Li88y
It was your post the other day that told me this record had come out, and I’ve been far from dissatisfied with the download.

Li88y
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

MVP
I touch my framed Iron Maiden trading cards for good luck, strap my bandana to my forehead, look myself in the mirror and say “you are a rockstar” three times. Oh, and I brush my teeth.

Li88y
If there were a M.V.P. trading card, what stats would you want to have on the back?

MVP
MVP Trading Card: Batting .400 for the Manchester Fisher Cats. Special abilities: I smell sex and candy.

Li88y
What’s the last thing you do before going to bed?

MVP
Brushing my teeth. Oh, and blowing some woman’s damn mind.

Li88y
Are you single?

MVP
I am in love. Technically, I am single I suppose.

Li88y
Do you pray?

MVP
Only if you consider Ronnie James Dio to be a god.

Li88y
Does dancing make you feel connected to something bigger than yourself?

MVP
Dancing makes me feel more alive than anything else that exists. Dancing is my world.

Li88y
How do you like to get intoxicated?

MVP
My relationship to/opinion of alcohol and drugs has changed considerably over the years. My best friend in the world got sober many moons ago, and she has shown me some of the most entertaining and rewarding nights I have spent in this city, without consuming a drop of alcohol. However, I have continued to socially drink with friends and family and still very much enjoy it. Also, occasionally I’ve been known to smoke a joint and watch Time Bandits. Shut up.

Li88y
I wasn’t going to say anything.

Li88y
Do you think you could live someplace other than NYC?

MVP
Absolutely. But why bother?

Li88y
Ocean, mountains, prairie or Norway?

MVP
Ocean, ocean, ocean, ocean.

Li88y
I’ve got this opinion that you’re killing it through what I know of you from social media and a little bit in life and from projects you do. How connected does the offline you feel to the you who is online?

MVP
Man, this is a loaded question. I feel that Facebook is an unfortunate rabbit hole that people can fall down and consequently struggle to escape from . It is so easy to spend five minutes on your Facebook feed and feel like your life isn’t as good/rich/diverse/exciting as someone else’s. “Why aren’t I in Dubai right now? How come this person has a better body right now? How come they’re at the gym right now and not me? I’m a piece of shit.” No you’re not. This is called “the fear of missing out” syndrome that Facebook has created. Live your own fucking life. That is how you create happiness within yourself. And if you want to share that happiness on Facebook, have at it. I have no idea what people’s perception of me on Facebook is, to be honest. But everything that goes on there is entirely real and in the moment. It’s not a curated museum of how awesome I’m supposed to be. I mostly just want people to laugh. In real life, I’m a fairly outgoing, polite, kind, caring person who just wants to have some fun. If that comes across online, great. If not, it doesn’t really matter because I have been blessed with so many friends in NYC that I don’t even have time to see them all on a regular basis.

Li88y
New York is magic.

MVP
I’m up all night to get lucky.
